Another update from Larry and Bella

Dear Prayer Partners,

Alot has transpired since our last mail on Monday and getting back electricity and information from the news. We were to find out that there was something possibly more threatening than the earthquake and tsunami itself. Nuclear plants were dispersing radiation into the air. We are thankful for many who were concerned of for our safety. Despite news from the failing nuclear reactors, we were not thinking of leaving. We didn't want to miss this possible opportunity for the Japanese to open their hearts to the Lord. However, as the situation seemed to not get better and the US embassy here in Japan recommended yesterday that the distance citizens live from the nuclear reactor increase to almost where we live, our mission leaders recommended us to go somewhere farther away, possibly north. Fellow missionaries, Mark and Athlee Bowman live in Hokkaido. For that reason, we made plans to go to Hokkaido. It wasn't easy with basically no gas available in the area and long waits or delays for public transportation. In the end, we decided to take our car even though if we were to need gas, it would be almost impossible to obtain. We needed to drive to a port 6 hours away which could take us and the car to Hokkaido. We drove in the middle of the night to avoid possible traffic snarls. However , the roads were covered often with snow and ice after a rather heavy snowfall in March. However, the Lord is good, he protected us along the way and made it to the port and tonight we made it to the Bowman's house safely. We are thankful for the Bowman's opening their house for our stay during this time.

We desire to return to Sendai when it is deemed safe to return because it was hard to say goodbye to those we have been ministering to and making friendships with.

We don't know how long we will be here, but as you may have heard the saying, although we don't know what the future holds, we know who holds our future.

Subject: We are okay after the earthquake in Sendai. Thank you for your prayers.


Hello friends and family,

We just got electricity back within the past hour and have been able to get back onto the internet, so the first thing we would like to tell you is that we thank the Lord for His safety for those we minister to and for Gina, Bella, Timothy , Tiffany, and myself.

As the earthquake happened we were in various places, but were all praying for his protection as the earthquake seemed to go on for the longest time and increase in magnitude. We are still living in our house although there needs to be fallen books put back in place and some broken dishes to clean up.

The concrete wall broken down to half it's size next to the road was our biggest damage, so fortunately no one was walking along it at the time.

We have not heard much information about the earthquake, yet but will soon be doing that. Electricity, gas and water has not been working, but the government is working on it and as I mentioned electricity is now working again.

There are long lines at gas stations, supermarkets, and to obtain water, but it is available for a medium to long wait.

Please pray that this can be an opportunity for people to realize how fragile their lives really are and that they may open their hearts to Jesus. For that reason, we are thankful that we can be here.

We also can be reminded how much our lives are really in His hands.
